Theory & Application

The idea of TQC Technique was constructed based on Bloom's Taxonomy.
Based on Bloom's,we divided the technique into 4 different stages where :
  • Stage 1 : Remembering/Knowledge    : Recalling fact of Mole Concept
  • Stage 2 : Understanding             : Identify the problem and information given  in question
  • Stage 3 : Applying                       : Use given information to solve the problem
  • Stage 4 : Analyzing                     : Relate the TQC method in further learning proces

What is TQC??

As you can see below, T stand for Theory,Q stand for Questions while C stand for Calculation.

TQC Flow Diagram
Each stage in this technique was related to Bloom's Taxonomy where the students need to remembered back their concept of mole learned in school and applied it in calculating the unknown need for particular question.

Stage 1(T) : Recalling ( THEORY)

In solving mole inter-conversion problem,to make it easier, always list all the information you know regarding 1 mole of compound in the 1st step(Stage 1:Theory).You cannot proceed to the 2nd step if you still cannot completing this task.
Below is the list of information that you need to recall and listed from your prior knowledge.
Tree of a mole
 For example ;
Info's for 1 mole of carbon dioxide
Let see a simple example :

Question A

Question A above want you to find the mass of 0.5 mol ammonia. Now,list out all information you can get from 1 mole of ammonia in question above.
Can you do it?

Check your answer
Good! Now,you are able to recall facts and basic concepts of 1 mole by listing all the needed information for a mole of compound/molecule
Referring to Bloom's Taxonomy above, now we believed that you are :
  • Able to recall facts and basic concepts
  • Able to list out the hidden information of 1 mole of any compound or molecule
Let proceed to Second Stage(Q).

Stage 2 (Q) : Comprehension/Understand ( QUESTION )

At this stage, you have to identify the needed of questions, means you have to identify:
  • Information given
  • Unknown you need to find
Referring to Bloom's Taxonomy,at this stage,in order to identify the unknown you need, firstly you have to understand the information given in the question.Does the question give you a mole of compound or half mole of compound? Do you need to find mass for 1 mole or 0.5 mole?
For example : Based on Question A in Stage 1(T),identify information given and the unknown
                        you need!

Identify Unknown and Information given from question
So,from the question, the unknown you need to identify is the mass of 0.5 mol of ammonia which is half of the mass of 1 mole ammonia.

Easy right?? Congrats, you had passed SECOND STAGE!! Yeay! Let's continue................

Stage 3(C) : Application ( CALCULATION

When you reach this stage, based on Taxonomy Bloom's,we expect you to be able to :
  • Apply stoichiometric calculation to find the unknown you need
  • Apply the concept of 1 mole based on the information listed in Stage 1 and 2 to solve the problems given
We believe that you are already familiar with stoichiometry calculation based on your previous lesson in class. So,lets do the math!

What you need to do :
  • Check your Theory in Stage 1.Highlight the information you need to used.As the question want you to find mass of ammonia, highlight the keywords 1 mol ammonia= 17g
  • Check Question in Stage 2.Question want you to find mass in 0.5 mol ammonia .Highlight the keywords
  • Do your math! Write stoichiometric equation and perform your calculation.
          Find the mass u need!
Overview of TQC Technique
Now you have mastered TQC Technique and able to perform correct calculation based on Stage 1 and Stage 2 you had learned..Let test your understanding with this question:
  • Start with Stage 1(T),Stage 2(Q) and finalized it with Stage 3(C)
ANSWER :

Let see example of more advance question:
Question :

First stage : Theory

Second stage : Question

Third stage : Calculation

Next example :
Question :
